About Guru Smt. Ratnam Janardhanan

“Dancing is Divine”.  An art which to flourish requires devoted, dedicated artistes and ardent followers. One such exponent of the art in the field of Indian Classical Dance is Ratnam Janardhanan, who is deeply devoted and dedicated to her art. Dance is her 'sadhana', her way to communicate with the Divine. For her, it is an unquenchable ocean. She is one of the artists in Orange City “To whom, Nagpur is culturally indebted …” – from media reports. A dancer, a dance teacher and choreographer as well as a singer, Ratnam Janardhanan is a distinguished figure in the field of Dance (Bharatanatyam) in Central India. She is also proficient in Mohiniyattam, the classical dance form in Kerala.

Ratnam Janardhanan received initial training in dance in her childhood under Kalamandalam Mannadiyar and Sadanam Lakshmi Kutty from Kerala.  After her marriage in 1971, Ratnam shifted to Nagpur (Maharashtra) where she continued her studies and dance performances. She obtained Nritya Visharad Degree in Bharatanatyam from Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Maha Vidyalaya Mandal, Mumbai.  Later, in 1983, she established her own dance school Pratibha Nritya Mandir, Nagpur, which is affiliated to Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Maha Vidyalaya Mandal, Miraj (Maharashtra) and now registered as a Charitable Trust for promotion of Indian art and culture.
